Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association pushes for stronger sustainability frameworks
Property developers are motivated to work together very closely with regulators and sector partners to set up constant power effectiveness requirements across the APAC markets.
Steered by cloud fostering, digital services and artificial intelligence (AI), local necessity for information centres is predicted to expand almost 20% annually through 2028. The International Energy Agency (IEA) projections that Southeast Asia’s information centre electricity use will certainly almost double by 2030 compared to 2024– a pattern mirrored throughout the larger APAC area.
The Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association (APDCA) has started a brand-new white paper calling for tougher guideline and market collaboration to enhance energy sustainability around data centres in the area.
The APDCA members include leading worldwide providers, such as AirTrunk, Equinix, Digital Realty, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, and Princeton Digital Group.
Amongst the examples mentioned is Singapore’s BCA-IMDA Green Mark for Data Centres (GMDC)– a qualification system jointly created by the Infocomm Media Growth Authority (IMDA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) to recognise information facilities with solid efficiency and energy-efficient methods.
Titled Data Centres and Energy Sustainability: A Regional Perspective on Best Practices and Policy Frameworks, the paper was published on Oct 27 and outlines approaches to reduce the environmental effect of information facilities while meeting the climbing need for digital framework in Asia-Pacific (APAC).
” Balancing energy sustainability with the rising need for electronic infrastructure is among APAC’s defining hurdles,” claims Jeremy Deutsch, chair of APDCA. “With the right policy frameworks, Asia-Pacific governments can ensure that digital improvement breakthroughs hand in hand with net-zero ambitions.”
The white paper emphasize best practices to boost energy performance throughout the data centre lifecycle– from site choice, design and building and construction to operations and monitoring. It also recommends plan actions to increase access to clean and renewable energy through stronger grid facilities and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
